Last weekend, Storm Fern did her icy deed. It started sometime Saturday night and went on until Sunday evening. We have been looking forward to some snow, but not to an ice storm. While there was snow at first, it was replaced by sleet, then by ice rain. Hours of ice rain. I shoveled our stairs while sleet was still coming down. I was glad I did. The next day, the surfaces turned into a pretty white mass with a very slippery surface, like ice. I could walk on it without leaving any signs that I was there.

Our backyard and patio are covered in a thick layer of icy snow. It feels like slippery concrete rather than snow. Our dogs like to go back there, despite it being very cold (-10 C) and the surface being icy. They quickly learned to slide down the stairs, and it looks like they are having a great time.

The photos on this page have been taken with the Fujinon 55-200mm lens. Since walking around our patio isn’t a good choice right now, the longer zoom lens comes in handy.
